Areas around Anchorage and Girdwood that Alaska Guide Collective uses for ski touring:

Kenai Mountains/Turnagain Pass- These mountains stretch down the eastern side of the Kenai peninsula, and are constantly catching storms coming out of the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound. Lots of nice maritime precipitation, steep and deep. The Seward Highway runs through Turnagain Pass 20 miles south of Girdwood, providing near tree-line access to skiing with a multitude of terrain options for many different conditions.

Western Chugach Mountains/Chugach Front Range- Anchorage sits at the foot of the Western end of the Chugach Mountains, a range that stretches 250 miles and averages 800” of snow a year. This close access to town provides skiers with a wide array of peaks to summit and couloirs to ride. The Chugach range is a ski mountaineer’s paradise.

Talkeetna Mountains/Hatcher Pass- Situated 60 miles north of Anchorage in the Talkeetna Mountains, Hatcher Pass is another popular ski destination in south central Alaska. It’s location away from the coast can provide clear skies when the weather is stormy near the ocean. The high elevation brings cold temperatures and early season snowfall, skiers are often on the hills before Halloween. The granite rock creates interesting ski features and terrain.

More options: Eastern Chugach/Valdez/Thompson Pass, the Alaska Range, the Aleutians, the Wrangells, the list goes on…Alaska is a really big state.

There is local terrain for all ability levels, please contact me if you have questions if this is the right trip for you.
